Date & Location
Tuesday, 7th Muharram 61 AH — Plains of Karbala.
No Water Left in the Camp
By this day, all water had run out. Children fainted from thirst, warriors struggled to stand, and even animals began to collapse.
The Night Water Mission
Imām Ḥusayn (A.S.) permitted a dangerous attempt to fetch water. His brother, Abū al-Faḍl al-ʿAbbās (A.S.), led a small group through the enemy lines to the Euphrates.
- They fought through the siege
- Filled water skins
- Returned successfully
The camp received brief relief—but several companions were wounded.
Oppression Intensifies
- The enemy tightened the siege
- Archers surrounded the river
- No mercy shown—even to infants
The Cries of Children
The sound of thirsty children echoed through the night. Mothers wept silently, trying to hide their grief. Even some enemy soldiers lowered their heads in shame.
The Night of Loyalty
Ḥusayn (A.S.) released his companions from their pledge, allowing them to leave under darkness.
“How can we abandon you, O son of Fāṭimah? We will never leave you.”
Spiritual Atmosphere
The tents glowed with candlelight, Qur’an recitation, duʿā, and dhikr—souls already detached from the dunya.
Reflection
When the world closes every door, Allah opens His own. One night of loyalty to Ḥusayn (A.S.) outweighs a lifetime of comfort without truth.
