Reinforcements Arrive
ʿUbaydullāh ibn Ziyād sent ʿUmar ibn Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ to Karbala with 4,000 soldiers, marking the beginning of a full military encirclement.
Ḥusayn (A.S.) Still Seeks Peace
Despite being outnumbered, Ḥusayn (A.S.) pursued dialogue and offered three just options:
- Return to Madinah
- Go to the border for jihād
- Go to Yazīd to speak face-to-face (not as a pledge)
But the response was uncompromising:
“Allegiance or death.”
Night of Loyalty
Ḥusayn (A.S.) released his companions from their pledge and told them to leave in the darkness. No one left. They declared they would rather be killed repeatedly than live without him.
Reflection
The enemy grew in number, but the camp of Ḥusayn grew in quality—this is where eternal loyalty rose.
