Date & Location
Monday, 6th Muharram 61 AH — Karbala.
The Euphrates Is Sealed
On this day, Ibn Ziyād’s order was fully implemented:
“Do not let a single drop of water reach Ḥusayn and his companions… even from the children.”
Guards were posted, and anyone attempting to reach water faced attack. This was not strategy—it was inhumanity.
The Cry of the Children
From this day onward, the camp fell into extreme thirst. Children cried with dry lips and weakened voices—حتى infants like ʿAlī Asghar were affected.
Enemy Numbers Grow
More troops arrived—some reports say up to 20,000+. Brutal figures like Shimr ibn Dhī al-Jawshan were among them.
Dignity Over Humiliation
“Death with dignity is better than life with humiliation.”
Night of Patience
Despite thirst and danger, the companions remained unwavering—spending the night in dhikr, Qur’an, duʿā, and preparation for the Hereafter.
Reflection
Blocking water from babies is the height of zulm. Karbala forces every generation to ask: are we standing with Ḥusayn today—or with the Yazīd of our time?
