The Siege Tightens
ʿUmar ibn Saʿd received orders from Ibn Ziyād to begin cutting off access to water. It was not fully enforced yet, but the intent became clear: monitor the river, gradually restrict it, and break morale through suffering.
Reinforcements Continue
The siege expanded with commanders and troops joining, widening the imbalance between an army and a small camp that included women and children.
Ḥusayn’s Moral Ground
Even under siege, Ḥusayn (A.S.) made no offensive move and urged sabr, akhlāq, and trust in Allah.
“The most powerful shield is not steel — it is truth.”
Hurr ibn Yazīd: Guilt Begins
Hurr—initially assigned to block Ḥusayn—started feeling uneasy as injustice grew. He began distancing himself internally, torn between obedience and conscience.
Reflection
Suffering for truth is better than surviving through silence.
