Sujūd: A Divine Mystery Unveiled

Why Two Sujoods in Each Rak‘ah?

Sujūd is a daily declaration of submission to Allah and rejection of Shaytan’s pride.

Iblīs Refused — We Submit

  • Iblīs was commanded to perform a sajdah to Adam (A.S.) and refused out of arrogance.
  • We prostrate twice in every rak‘ah—showing loyalty to Allah and rejection of pride.

“Prostrate and draw near [to Allah].” (96:19)

Earth & Arrogance

In sujūd, the noblest part of you (the forehead) touches the earth—reversing ego into humility and reminding you of your origin.

Spiritual Secrets of Sujūd

A) The Closest Moment to Allah

“The closest a servant is to his Lord is while in prostration…” (Muslim)

It is a moment of nearness to mercy, forgiveness, and acceptance.

B) Total Surrender

Sujūd involves the surrender of the body—thought, action, direction—entirely to the Creator.

C) Return to Our Origin

“From the earth We created you, and into it We will return you…” (20:55)

Healing Effects

  • Destroys ego
  • Heals the heart
  • Calms anxiety

What to Say in Sujūd

The Prophet ﷺ taught:

  • “Subḥāna Rabbiyal-Aʿlā”
  • “O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, give me health, and provide for me.”

Final Thought

Every sajdah is a seed planted in Jannah—water it with sincerity, humility, and love.
