Eid al-Adha: The Legacy of Ultimate Submission

The Day of Great Sacrifice

Eid al-Adha commemorates the ultimate legacy of submission and sacrifice by Prophet Ibrāhīm (عليه السالم), Sayyidah Hājar, and Prophet Ismāʿīl (عليه السالم). It's not about meat and rituals—it's about becoming like Ibrāhīm: a lover of Allah, willing to give everything.

Allah says: "Their meat and blood do not reach Allah, but what reaches Him is your taqwā." (Qur'an 22:37)

The Legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (AS)

A man whose entire life was a journey of Labbayk—"Here I am, O Allah."

1. Tawḥīd Over Everything

He smashed idols, defied his people, and stood alone against a tyrant king. He chose Allah even if it meant fire. "Indeed, I have turned my face toward Him who created the heavens and the earth…" (Qur'an 6:79)

2. Sacrifice of the Dearest

He was commanded to sacrifice his beloved son Ismāʿīl—and he didn't flinch. He trusted Allah's wisdom more than his own love. "O my son, I see in a dream that I am slaughtering you… What do you think?" And Ismāʿīl replied: "Do as you are commanded." (Qur'an 37:102)

3. Trust and Vision in Isolation

He left his wife Hājar and baby Ismāʿīl in a barren desert with no water. Because Allah said so—and that was enough. And look what came from that act: Zamzam flowed, Makkah was built, the Kaʿbah was raised, and Rasulullah ﷺ came from that lineage.

How to Internalize This Legacy in Our Time

1. Live for Tawḥīd

Remove modern idols: fame, ego, wealth, desires, nationalism, fear. Make your heart purely Allah's. Ask: "Am I doing this for Allah alone?"

2. Sacrifice What You Love

Give up sinful habits. Let go of people, habits, or goals that block you from Allah. Your Ismāʿīl could be your pride, your comfort, your plan. Say: "Ya Allah, I give this up for You."

3. Trust Allah's Timing

When you're in a "barren desert" moment in life—alone, dry, confused—remember: Zamzam only flows when you trust. Sayyidah Hājar didn't sit and cry. She ran between Ṣafā and Marwah seven times, trusting Allah will not forsake her.

4. Stand Firm Like a Nation

"Indeed, Ibrāhīm was a nation (Ummah)…" (Qur'an 16:120). Even if you're alone—hold the truth, live with sincerity, and Allah will raise you as a beacon.

5. Rebuild the Kaʿbah in Your Heart

Remove the clutter of dunya. Lay down bricks of Qur'an, dhikr, duʿā', and service to others. Say with your life: Labbayka Allāhumma labbayk!

A Heartfelt Prayer

O Allah, make us of the sincere like Ibrāhīm, of the trusting like Hājar, of the submissive like Ismāʿīl. Grant us Your closeness, Your love, and Your victory in this life and the next. Ameen.
